Mira Murati, who is the Chief Technology Officer, is the temporary CEO. They are looking for someone permanent. OpenAI’s employees learned about this when it was made public, not before.
Altman shared on a platform (used to be called Twitter, now called X) that he enjoyed his time at OpenAI and that it changed him and maybe the world a bit. He liked working with smart people. Altman is also working on getting money for a fund to focus on “hard tech,” but it’s not clear if that’s why he left OpenAI.
OpenAI also said Greg Brockman, who helped start the company, is not going to be the chairman of the board anymore. He’ll still be part of the company. But, after the news came out, Brockman said on X that he quit because of what happened today.
Sam Altman, who used to be the boss at OpenAI, said he’s thankful for the amazing time he had there and for working with really smart people. He also mentioned that he has some plans for the future. Altman is known for doing other projects outside of OpenAI, like trying to get money for a special fund focused on “hard tech” stuff. When he left, Mira Murati became the temporary boss at OpenAI. Another person, Greg Brockman, who helped start the company, stopped being the head of the board. He later said he’s leaving the company too.
